News Anchor Pleads Guilty After Stabbing Mom In Deadly Attack
A news anchor, 48, made a name for themselves on local news stations. Moreover, they worked the morning program at the St. Louis, Missouri station KTVI Fox 2 from 2011 to 2015. Before that, they were a sports reporter at KLKN in Lincoln, Nebraska, from 2002 to 2004. Now, they are an inmate at a jail in Wichita, Kansas.
Angelynn Mock pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree murder. Her mother, Anita Avers, was found dead at the family’s home in Wichita on October 31, 2025. The news anchor was arrested and charged with the crime. Anita Avers, 80, had multiple stab wounds to her head, face, and torso, PEOPLE magazine reported at the time.
Angelynn Mock called 911 herself after the crime. She told the dispatcher that her mother “tried to kill her, so she stabbed her in return.” However, once the cops arrived, she gave them different accounts of what happened. The news anchor initially told the cops that she walked into her mom’s bedroom and saw the sharpened knives on the bed. Angelynn Mock claimed that her mother attacked her with a knife and she had to defend herself.
However, in another statement, she changed the story to being in the room telling her mother about a job interview when her mom began to sharpen the knives. The news anchor said she had to kill her mom because her mother was the devil.
Disturbing Details Of Crime Scene
Angelynn Mock’s stepfather told the police that she had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder before the murder. He said that she had suffered from delusions and depression. The news anchor was later diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder.
The police described a harrowing crime scene. They found kitchen-style knives and a cheese grater on the bed where Anita Avers was murdered. “All the utensils had blood on them…the top sheet had at least 12 holes in the top half of the sheet, consistent with those caused by a knife,” the 2025 affidavit said. Angelynn Mock was taken to the hospital and was treated for lacerations to her left and right hand and inner right arm.
She was later arrested and charged with one count of first-degree murder. Sentencing is the next step after pleading guilty. She reportedly accepted a plea deal for life in prison with eligibility for parole after 25 years. The former news anchor returns to court on October 5, 2026, for sentencing.
