Music

Jack White was among scores of devotees to honor the late Dolly Parton yesterday (August 25), following her death at the age of 80. After a succinct Instagram tribute—“Instant Sainthood”—White saluted the country legend by reviving his cover of “Jolene,” a cornerstone of the White Stripes live repertoire. It was his first performance of the track since the band’s split in 2007, according to setlist.fm. Watch it below.

Legions of figures from the country pantheon and beyond, including many whose paths crossed with Parton’s, joined White in posting tributes after the news broke. Among them were Taylor Swift, Reba McEntire, Kacey Musgraves, Shania Twain, Beyoncé, Paul McCartney, and Eminem. Follow along with Pitchfork’s roundup of the remembrances.
