One of the most heartbreaking lines from Oliver Queen comes after Sara’s death in season 3. Felicity questions why he’s so calm and collected. During the Arrowverse’s Crisis on Infinite Earths, Oliver Queen sacrifices his life to save the others, and Barry has a hard time coping with that. He feels immense guilt because Oliver said that he sacrificed himself to save Barry and Kara. Barry is grappling with survivor’s guilt and the idea that Oliver’s family lost him.
However, Oliver relays extremely true advice that helps Barry get through the moment and keep fighting, and it’s a quote that can help people in the real world who have lost a loved one. As Oliver said, the people who continue living are the ones who are the heroes. It takes immense strength to get up every day and keep going while grieving. However, it’s necessary.

Oliver Queen may be a strong, driven vigilante, but he is also a man who went through immense trauma. He lost Sara. His father took his own life so that Oliver could live. He was forced to survive for quite some time on Lian Yu. He got pulled into Amanda Waller’s mission. He was molded by the Bratva. There is so much that he keeps inside, and this quote is exactly why.
No matter how much terrible trauma he went through, he doesn’t want to be seen differently. He doesn’t want people to change the way they act around him. So, he stays silent. This is not only one of the most emotionally vulnerable moments Oliver Queen has, but it will also be relatable to survivors of all kinds. Luckily, he eventually starts to open up slowly to trusted individuals.

Legends of Tomorrow trailer consisted primarily of scenes not in the TV show, including Oliver saying this quote. Still, it deserves a high ranking when it comes to Oliver Queen’s best quotes. The phrasing might seem simple, but the way the writers wrote it is extremely impactful. The longer sentence at the front makes the two sentence fragments more punchy.
What’s more, the quote is extremely representative of Oliver Queen’s path from a solo vigilante to the leader of a team. His mission in Arrow season 1 was to save the city all by himself, but life brought him a bodyguard with a military background and a tech genius who wanted to help despite her hesitance. The team only continued to grow from there, with most of the members organically joining the team, rather than being intentionally recruited.

The vigilantes in Star City act out of a strong sense of justice, believing their approach is the right one. They are trying to protect what they care about. The statement sets the tone for the entire series. That scene immediately told us that Arrow would include high-stakes deception and deception. It also set expectations for Oliver as a character. “You Have Failed This City!” is the best catchphrase in the Arrowverse and the best quote from Oliver Queen because it represents the core mission that his father gave to him to save Starling City from corrupt individuals. It also reinforces the theme of social justice, which exists from the beginning to the end of the show.
Even after he crosses the names off the list, Oliver Queen continues to use his famous catchphrase, or variations of it. When it was said in tense situations, it induced fear in his victims.
