Theatrical releases continue to be added to the 2024 calendar, which is a very good sign given that we still haven’t seen the shake-up yet from the prolonged SAG-AFTRA strike. Focus Features just dated the horror comedy, Lisa Frankenstein, which was written by Oscar winner Diablo Cody for a Feb. 9, 2024 opening.
Also hitting theaters on that weekend next year is Sony’s Blake Lively, Justin Baldoni film, Colleen Hoover’s It Ends With Us.
Lisa Frankenstein reps the feature theatrical debut of Zelda Williams and follows a misunderstood teenager and her high school crush, who happens to be a handsome corpse. After a set of playfully horrific circumstances bring him back to life, the two embark on a murderous journey to find love, happiness… and a few missing body parts along the way. Pic stars Kathryn Newton, Cole Sprouse, Liza Soberano, Henry Eikenberry, Joe Chrest and Carla Gugino.
Mason Novick and Cody produce, the previously teaming on films including Tully, Young Adult, Jennifer’s Body and Juno, the latter which Cody notched an Oscar win for Best Original Screenplay. Jeffrey Lampert served as EP.
Universal is handling overseas distribution.
Focus also has Ethan Coen’s Drive-Away Dolls on Feb. 23 which stars Beanie Feldstein, Geraldine Viswanathan, and Margaret Qualley. That movie was moved from a mid September release this year to next year due to the actors’ strike.
