Red Dead Redemption 2’s Final Secret Discovered After 7 Years

Red Dead Redemption 2’s Final Secret Discovered After 7 Years
Movies

Rockstar Games’ Wild West opus, Red Dead Redemption 2, is treating its most dedicated fans to a newly discovered mystery, more than seven years after the game came out. RDR2 is no stranger to mysteries, and some of those mysteries involve Strangers, but the recently dubbed Spider Dream Mystery is sending players ambling all over New Hanover, Ambarino, and Lemoyne.

Over the last few weeks, the Spider Dream Mystery has engulfed the RedDeadMysteries subreddit. A telephone pole (or more likely a telegraph pole) was found near Cornwall Kerosene & Tar which bears a spider-shaped engraving. For a short time each day, a spider web at the top of the pole bears a feather, which is called “spiderdream” in the game files, giving the mystery its name. The spider engraving, when laid over Red Dead Redemption 2‘s map, has led players to seven other telephone poles with similar spider web and feather accouterments.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Has One Last Mystery

With the spider engraving overlaid on the map, another set of poles can be found near the spider’s center, this time without feathers on their webs. When the webs’ patterns are lined up, what appears to be a capital N and lowercase T appear, though the latter has now been deciphered as a telephone pole symbol.

Going directly north from the center of the featherless web telephone poles, you run into yet another pole that can be shot multiple times to reveal a capital W alongside five more telephone pole symbols. Heading west past four poles and shooting the fifth, another symbol appears, capitals NW accompanied by what is thought to be a guitar.

This is currently where Red Dead Redemption 2‘s latest mystery has gone cold. A few possible leads are being considered, like a guitar found in Fort Wallace, or Spider Gorge because of its name, but at the time of writing, no solution nor the next major clue has been discovered.

It Raises More Questions Than Answers

The Spider Dream Mystery so far coming to a dead end leaves RDR2‘s latest conundrum more than a little unsatisfying. Either the mystery will eventually be solved, or there’s simply no way to continue following leads. It’s possible that the poles, webs, feathers, and symbols are all part of Red Dead Redemption 2‘s cut content, or the mystery itself was simply never finished by the developers.

If there is no solution, the only way we’ll get closure is if someone from Rockstar Games clarifies the matter. Grand Theft Auto 5‘s Mount Chiliad mystery went on for years, though, so there’s still hope that the Spider Dream Mystery actually leads somewhere. Red Dead Redemption 2 is still on the cutting edge of open-world games, even seven years after its release, and this new mystery is just the latest reminder that it’s in a league of its own.
