Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast is popular because the guests don’t hold back. During a recent appearance on the pod, Gayle King shared in graphic detail how her marriage ended. She was married to William Bumpus from 1982 until 1993. They recently welcomed their third grandchild.
She opened up to Alex Cooper about walking in on her husband and one of her friends in a state of undress. The talk show host admitted that she tried to make the marriage work despite the betrayal. However, it was too much and they divorced in 1993.
She Breaks Silence On Ex’s Public Apology
Gayle King recently pulled the curtain back on her divorce and revealed that her ex-husband cheated on her with a friend. The interview went viral, as did what she said about rumors surrounding her relationship with Oprah Winfrey.
TMZ caught up with William Bumpus to get his side of the story. He had a lot to say. “My deepest apologies to Gayle, to our daughter Kirby and her husband, Virgil, to our son William and his wife, Elise, and to our three grandchildren, for the pain I caused decades ago. Those actions were mine,” he said.
In addition to taking full accountability, he praised his ex-wife. “I remain endlessly grateful to Gayle. She gave me two of the greatest gifts of my life — our daughter Kirby and our son William. It was Gayle who encouraged and supported me through getting my Yale Law degree. And it was Gayle who chose, with me, to co-parent successfully from the very beginning.”
TMZ tracked Gayle King down for a response to her ex’s apology. The TV anchor was impressed that the outlet was able to find him and that he spoke to them. She said that she “appreciated” his apology.
