Queer icons Kim Petras and Sam Smith both released anti-Valentine’s Day sad bangers, and we are here for it.

Pop princess Petras has perfected the art of sad bangers, but her new track ‘Reminds Me’ tops them all.

The german singer premiered the song live in Amsterdam last month, but says it’s so sad that she can’t watch it back.

“I wanted to make a song for myself and everyone else that might not be getting flowers or chocolates this year,” explained 27-year-old Kim.

“Every time you think of a past relationship, listen to this and hang out with me instead.”

Meanwhile, British singer Sam Smith upped the stakes by releasing a track – with accompanying music video – of their own for Valentine’s Day.

Smith said that new single ‘To Die For’ is for “all the lonely hearts out there”.

After announcing on Thursday (February 13) that their new album, also called ‘To Die For’, will be released in May, the popstar marked Valentine’s Day by releasing a song all about waiting to meet The One.

The soaring ballad, with a sad and beautiful video, stars Smith as a lonely mannequin head in a shop window, stuck watching as the world, and many happy couples, stroll by.

In an interview, Smith said that they think Valentine’s Day is “offensive” and not romantic at all, after spending every single one single.

During a chat on Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp, Sam Smith admitted they wanted to “destroy” Valentine’s Day.

They said: “It’s my twenty seventh year of being single on Valentine’s Day. I’m over it. It’s offensive. Yeah I’m sad today. Today’s a sad day. It’s more like a funeral.”

Over on Heart Breakfast with Jamie and Amanda, Sam added: “Look I don’t want to be a Debbie downer but this isn’t my favourite day. I’m quite anti-Valentine’s day.”

The 27-year-old added that Valentine’s Day was started by Clintons, a greetings-card company where they used to work.
