When it comes to the incredible high fantasy world that George R.R. Martin created with the publication of the A Song of Ice and Fire franchise, it is no wonder that many of us are interested in the types of things that may have inspired his work. With the A Song of Ice and Fire franchise becoming perhaps the biggest television show of all time thanks to Game of Thrones by HBO, Martin is no stranger to what this entails, and so it is perhaps unsurprising what one of the author’s favorite television shows is.
From One Genius To Another
As no stranger to sharing the latest media that he has been enjoying, Martin took to his website back in May to share praise for The Expanse, which was originally adapted by SyFy for three seasons before it was canceled and then acquired by Amazon. Based on the series of novels of the same name by author James S.A. Corey, the sci-fi drama is considered one of the best of all time, which Martin will relate to all too well.
On his website, Martin said The Expanse was a “terrific show in all regards. It looked magnificent, but that’s true of a lot of big-budget space shows these days. It was also really well written and well directed, with an amazing and talented cast.” In conclusion, Martin said The Expanse was “the best space show on television, far and away.”
High praise, indeed, which made it all the more disappointing when The Expanse was canceled by its original studio. However, it is not all doom and gloom, as the beloved sci-fi series is set to return in Spring 2027 with an exciting new release.
The Universe Expands In Spring 2027
Set to launch in the new year, The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is an upcoming action RPG which, you guessed it, is set in The Expanse universe. Developed by Owlcat Games in partnership with Alcon Interactive Group, the video game is set to expand the universe first introduced in the book series, with players taking on the role of a simple mercenary who finds themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Now, you will have to keep your crew together and your ship intact as you embark on a journey which will see your every decision have major consequences. The official synopsis for The Expanse: Osiris Reborn reads as follows:
