Synopsis: A new couple unwittingly spends their entire savings on a new home only to discover that it’s haunted. After inviting a medium to intervene they’re faced with a danger that not only threatens their lives but their afterlives as well.
New home-ownership – there’s nothing quite like it – the fresh paint, the opportunity to plan how you want your rooms set up, to the first major repair…then the ghosts make their appearance – wait, strike that last comment from the record. In Director Sean Oliver’s haunted-house film, “Forever Home”, the limits of said ownership are tested and stretched to their absolute limits – just how much is this new acquisition going to cost them, financially, mentally and physically? Read on for the complete dissection of this presentation below.
This heart-string yanking horror/comedy centers around Jules & Ryan (Lideen/Leatham) as the aforementioned couple with a new cross to bear: their freshly-purchased home has not only emptied their wallets, but has left the door opened to the spirit world, and it’s becoming a tad crowded in their new digs. With nosy neighbors, odder-than-odd psychic mediums and intrusive relatives aplenty to muddle what already is a cloudy situation, the story goes from 0-60 in a matter of moments. Details will be left sparingly here, as there just isn’t a whole lot of blood and guts to this cadaver – laughs are subtle and scattered, the performances are average, and the scares are…how do I say this – anemic at best.
Overall, “Forever Home” might not be the end-all space to come home after a long day’s work and kick off your shoes for some relaxation-time, but it should provide just enough of a distraction to get your mind in a little bit better place. It’s worth a once-over if you’re looking for a “true” horror comedy – dishonest realtors need not apply.
