Hold The Fort Movie Review by Matt Boiselle

Hold The Fort – written & directed by William Bagley, and starring Chris Mayers, Levi Burdick & Julian Smith

When it comes to horror comedies, finding the right balance between laughs and carnage isn’t always easy. Fortunately, director William Bagley understands exactly what kind of movie he’s making with Hold the Fort, delivering a fast-paced creature feature that’s as goofy as it is gory.

The setup alone is enough to grab any horror fan’s attention. A young couple leaves city life behind in search of suburban bliss, only to discover their new homeowners association isn’t just strict about lawn maintenance—it also happens to stand between Earth and an all-out invasion from Hell. It’s an absurd premise, and thankfully, the film embraces every bit of that insanity. Rather than trying to ground the story in realism, Hold the Fort throws viewers headfirst into monster mayhem, mixing demonic creatures, buckets of blood, and tongue-in-cheek humor into an entertaining midnight movie package. The creature effects are one of the film’s biggest strengths, with plenty of memorable monsters that look like they walked straight out of an ’80s video store rental.

The comedy doesn’t land every single time, but it hits often enough thanks to a likable cast that’s clearly having fun. Their chemistry keeps the film moving through its increasingly ridiculous situations, and the action rarely slows down long enough for the momentum to disappear.

Bagley also deserves credit for keeping the tone consistent. Hold the Fort never pretends to be something it’s not. It knows it’s a wild, over-the-top horror comedy, and it commits to that identity from beginning to end. That confidence goes a long way in making the film work.

If you’re the kind of horror fan who enjoys creature features, practical effects, outrageous action, and a healthy dose of self-aware humor, Hold the Fort is well worth adding to your watchlist. It may not become the next Evil Dead II or Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, but it’s the kind of movie that reminds you why horror comedies can be so much fun when everyone involved understands the assignment.

The Verdict: Hold the Fort is a bloody, funny, monster-filled good time that delivers exactly what it promises. Grab some popcorn, leave logic at the door, and enjoy the chaos.
