Focus Features has set a theatrical release of May 10, 2024 for the Amy Winehouse biopic, Back to Black.

Sam Taylor-Johnson directs from a script written by Matt Greenhalgh. The duo previously teamed on 2009’s Nowhere Boy.

Back to Black is a never-before-seen glimpse into Amy Winehouse’s early rise to fame and the release of her groundbreaking studio album, Back to Black. Told from Winehouse’s POV, the film is billed as an unapologetic look at the woman behind the phenomenon and the relationship that inspired one of the most legendary albums of all time. The 2006 album skyrocketed her to stardom as she went on to win a then record breaking five Grammy awards including Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Winehouse has sold more than 30M albums around the globe and today generates more than 80M streams monthly.

Pic stars break-out actress Marisa Abela (Industry) in the coveted lead role alongside Jack O’Connell (Ferrari), Eddie Marsan (Fair Play) and Lesley Manville (Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris). Alison Owen and Debra Hayward of Monumental Pictures are producing. Nicky Kentish-Barnes executive produces alongside Ron Halpern and Joe Naftalin on behalf of StudioCanal.

The movie was made with the full support of Universal Music Group, Sony Music Publishing and The Amy Winehouse Estate.

Studio Canal previously announced the release dates for international territories including: UK (April 12), Poland (April 12), Germany (April 18), Netherlands (April 18), France (April 24), and NZ (April 25). Universal Pictures International will handle distribution in the rest of the world.
