On the heels of V/H/S/85‘s record-breaking premiere on Shudder last week, the streamer announced at the ongoing New York Comic Con that the franchise will continue with a seventh installment, which will focus on sci-fi horror.

The untitled sequel will feature five new bloodcurdling tapes, placing horror at the forefront of a sci-fi-inspired hellscape.

The Shudder Original Film will be released in 2024.

The news comes on the heels of a record-breaking opening weekend for the latest installment, V/H/S/85, which debuted Friday, October 6 and became the most-watched exclusive film premiere of 2023 for Shudder and AMC+, driving Shudder’s biggest acquisition day of the year on Saturday, October 7. Viewership for the film on AMC+ was also up 25% from last year’s V/H/S/99.

“The V/H/S franchise has been terrifying and entertaining audiences for over a decade now thanks to the work of some of the genre’s most gifted filmmakers,” said Head of AMC Networks’ Film Group Scott Shooman. “Following the massive success of V/H/S/85 and its previous installments on Shudder, it’s clear that the filmmaking team won’t be running out of unique ideas anytime soon. We’re thrilled that the franchise is going in a bold, new direction that will surprise fans and newcomers alike, and demonstrate the innovative capabilities of sci-fi within the world of V/H/S.”

“Jason Voorhees, Leprechaun, Pinhead, Dracula, even the Amityville Horror house ended up in space, so as we move into our own Part 7 it was only natural that we should too,” said producer Josh Goldbloom. “The sci-fi horror genre provides us an infinite playground of forbidden worlds and dangerous lifeforms, a formula which we’re confident will lead to the biggest, maddest, bloodiest V/H/S ever.”

President of Scripted Content at Studio71 Michael Schreiber commented, “We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Shudder on a groundbreaking new V/H/S film! The V/H/S franchise has become a cornerstone of the horror genre that provides an unfiltered platform for filmmakers to push boundaries and tell innovative stories.”

Shudder’s New York Comic-Con panel this afternoon featured Shudder’s VP of Programming Samuel Zimmerman moderating a V/H/S All-Stars panel, including veteran V/H/S directors and producers Josh Goldbloom, David Bruckner (V/H/S/1, V/H/S/85), Chloe Okuno (V/H/S/94), Natasha Kermani (V/H/S/85), and Tyler McIntyre (V/H/S/99).

Producers for the next installment of V/H/S include Josh Goldbloom for Cinepocalypse, Brad Miska, and James Harris (47 Meters Down), and executive producers Michael Schreiber & Adam Boorstin for Studio71.

The deal was negotiated by Emily Gotto and Nicholas Lazo on behalf of Shudder and Schreiber and Federico J. Blanco on behalf of Studio71.
