Kim Kardashian Is Reportedly Divorcing Kanye West “For the Sake of Her Kids and Her Own Sanity”

Pop Culture

Kim Kardashian is apparently ending her almost-seven-year marriage to save her own sanity, after her husband Kanye West‘s controversial presidential campaign run pushed her over the edge.

The rapper’s beleaguered bid for office and explosive Twitter rants, often targeted at his wife and her family, were reportedly “the final straw” for Kim and made her realize she “needed to end the marriage for the sake of her kids and her own sanity,” according to a source who spoke to Page Six. “Kim was really supportive of Kanye during his struggle with his mental health. But she knows she has to do the right thing for her kids.” A second source noted that she “never came out publicly and endorsed him. Her silence on it spoke volumes.”

Since the news first broke of the couple’s marriage is supposedly ending, there have been a number of rumors swirling on social media about who Kim may be dating now. But Page Six‘s source asserts that “She’s not dating anyone because, if she were, it would be a career move. She can’t go to restaurants now on dates and have paparazzi [due to the pandemic]. She can’t date quietly; she doesn’t even understand what that would be like.” Another source added, “We’re talking about someone who is already one of the most famous people in the world…she doesn’t need anyone to make her more famous. There isn’t a war happening. They’ve been working through a lot for a while now, for a few months. This isn’t about one thing. There are things that have accumulated over time and created distance between them.”

But while she and Kanye may have been negotiating this separation for a while now, that didn’t make the holidays any easier for the KKW Beauty founder. “December was a rough month for Kim,” a source told People. “She has been living separately from Kanye. Over the holidays, it was hard for her to stay positive. She has been trying her best, though, for the kids. She stayed in Los Angeles for New Year’s. Kourtney and Khloé were around to support her. She is very grateful to have her sisters to lean on.” They added that while “She is sad about it, of course,” the split was also “inevitable” after the difficult year they’ve faced. “She just feels she has done everything in her power to make her marriage work. Even though she has been thinking about divorce for months, she hasn’t filed because she feels terrible for the kids.”

For now, she plans to remain at the family’s Hidden Hills, California home to “provide a safe and stable environment for the kids.” After a number of fans noticed she hasn’t had her engagement ring on for months, she’s also once again started wearing it. While visiting her grandmother Mary Jo on Wednesday night, Kim was photographed with the wedding band very much back in place.
