Hailey Bieber and Selena Gomez quashed the rumors that there’s beef between them by posing for a friendly photo together.
The two stars attended the second annual Academy Museum gala in Los Angeles on Sunday night. Inside the event, the pair were photographed by Tyrell Hampton who shared the image on his Instagram account of Bieber and Gomez smiling and embracing each other with the caption “plot twist.” For the event, Bieber wore a brown Saint Laurent spring 2023 gown with a twisted, strapless bust, a large diamond ab cutout, and ruching through the waist paired with Tiffany & Co. jewels. Gomez chose a classic black Armani tuxedo for the evening layered atop a Wolford bodysuit and finished off with Cartier diamond drop earrings and a panther cocktail ring.
This friendly reunion comes after the pop star responded late last month to the model’s tell-all interview on the podcast Call Her Daddy, during which Bieber revealed that to this day she still receives hateful comments from Gomez’s fans accusing her of “stealing” the singer’s ex-boyfriend and her current husband of four years, Justin Bieber. In a TikTok Live following the release of that episode, Gomez said in response to the podcast, “It’s not fair because no one should ever be spoken to in the manner that I’ve seen,” going on to call out anyone who supports her but has been saying those types of “vile and disgusting” things about Hailey. “If you support Rare, I cannot thank you enough, but know that you are also representing what it means,” the Only Murders in the Building star added, referring to her makeup brand, Rare Beauty, and its mental health initiative. “And that is: Words matter. Truly matter.” She also noted how “ironic” it is that these very trolls are also the same people supporting her and her mental health initiatives as she is “all about kind words.” Gomez concluded, “I hope that you understand that this is much bigger than anything else.”
In the podcast interview, Hailey explained that ever since she and Justin got engaged a few months after he and Gomez officially ended their relationship, she has been subjected to an endless tirade of abuse from the singer’s fans. Gomez and Bieber dated on-and-off for eight years before finally calling things off in 2018. The model clarified, “I can say, period, point blank, I was never with him when he was in a relationship with anybody—that’s the end of it.” She continued, “You’re not obligated to like me, but I believe that no matter what, there can always be mutual respect between people. To me that means, you don’t have to say anything. You don’t have to like me, but you don’t have to say anything either.” Hailey added that she had “no expectations” that Gomez would come to her defense in all of this. She said, “If that was something she felt was necessary, that would be amazing. But I just respect her. There’s no drama, personally.”
