Friends Reunion Confirmed with a Coordinated Social Media Blitz

Pop Culture

You remember how to get to Central Perk, right?

The friends of Friends will be celebrating their friendship this May, and we are all invited. That is so long as we subscribe to the forthcoming streaming platform HBO Max. (HBO Max is different from HBO Go, so you are going to have to chase down someone that has a code to that, too, unfortunately.)

The news came from from a timed assault across social media. Among those posting was Rachel Green herself, aka Jennifer Aniston, on her Instagram page.

“It’s happening…” she wrote, tagging her five co-stars and photographer Mark Seliger on a photo he shot for the cover of Rolling Stone in 1995.

“HOLY COW!!!” responded Reese Witherspoon. “Whoa,” said Elizabeth Banks. “WHAT” asked Awkwafina. “Driving like this would be illegal today,” added David Spade. I could go on but we’d be here all day.

Matthew Perry, Courtney Cox, and Lisa Kudrow, also posted the same picture, to much excitement in the comments. David Schwimmer got in on it, too, but he limits commenting on his social media presence, which is so Ross, isn’t it? Matt LeBlanc kinda won the day, though, by posting a picture from a slightly different television show.

It’s not new episodes of the show, though, so everybody calm down. It is an “exclusive untitled unscripted special” according to Variety, though a rumored title floating around the Internet is The One Where They Got Back Together.

Also, we would all do very well to keep our expectations managed. How quickly we forget that just four years ago, five of the six friends reunited for a televised chat and it was, by some accounts, a snooze.
