Frances Bean Cobain marries Tony Hawk’s son in ’90s dream union: report

Pop Culture

Frances Bean Cobain and Riley Hawk are husband and wife, according to emerging reports.

The celebrity children reportedly married earlier this month in Los Angeles. According to TMZ, which obtained the legal documents, Frances, 31, and Riley, 30, received a marriage licence in San Diego County in September.

As if the union of these 1990s celeb children wasn’t going to please culture enthusiasts enough, the ceremony was even officiated by R.E.M frontman Michael Stipe, who is Frances’ godfather.

The daughter of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain and singer Courtney Love revealed she was dating the son of pro-skateboarder Tony Hawk last year.

Though their romance had been long since rumoured, Frances confirmed the love connection in a January 2022 Instagram post highlighting things that brought her “a great amount of joy” the year prior — namely, Riley. In her photo carousel, Frances included a photo of Riley holding her dog in front of a Christmas tree, and a lovey-dovey photo of her and Riley cozying together on a boat next to Tony and his wife Catherine Goodman.

Frances is a visual artist and model. She was married once before to musician Isaiah Silva, though the couple divorced in 2016 after less than two years of marriage.

Much of the divorce proceedings revolved around the possession of one of Kurt’s guitars, which was awarded to Silva in a 2018 settlement. Silva said Frances promised him the guitar as a wedding gift, but claimed he was later victim of kidnapping and extortion because he refused to return the instrument.

The iconic guitar, which Kurt played during the legendary MTV Unplugged in New York performance, was later sold at auction for over US$6 million.

Riley Hawk is a professional skateboarder. Unlike his father, who was known for vertical skateboarding, Riley is better known for being a street skater. He is also the frontman of the punk band Warish.
