The 2021 Oscars ceremony may have relegated all of the best original song performances to its pre-show Oscars: Into The Spotlight event, but that didn’t stop Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga’s Oscar-nominated “Husavik” from delivering a performance worthy of the main stage—and all the way from Iceland, to boot.
Swedish pop singer Molly Sandén, who lent her vocals to Rachel McAdam’s aspiring singer-songwriter in the film, performed the song from its namesake city: Husavik, Iceland. Accompanied by an all-female orchestra, Sandén belted out the 11 o’clock number from a picturesque wharf. Best of all, she was backed by a cozy sweater-clad children’s choir from Husavik.
The performance had everything you’d want from an Oscars moment: large wooden boats floating in the background, children singing in Icelandic, and gorgeous fireworks shooting out over Iceland’s skyline at the song’s climax. Whether Sandén and her fellow Oscar-nominated song writers Savan Kotecha, Fat Max Gsus and Rickard Göransson take home Oscar gold, they’ve certainly done Husavik proud.
