Pop sensation Ariana Grande took to her Instagram to share pictures and all-lowercase commentary from her 27th birthday party. In the posts, she divulged that the event was modeled after last summer’s flower-forward film Midsommar.
“my friends and i went with a midsommar theme because help me,” she wrote Saturday.
Previously, the Florida-born “break up with your boyfriend, i’m bored” singer included more from the soiree via Instagram stories. “thank u for the most beautiful midsommar bdayyyy :)” she wrote, tagging some of her pals on the ephemeral platform.
While the party did not involve anyone sewn into a bear suit and lit on fire (we’re guessing), news of the gathering quickly made its way to the star of Ari Aster’s celebrated horror film, Florence Pugh.
“Mayqueeen!! Now have some mushroom tea,” the 24-year-old British actress wrote back to Grande in an Instagram story of her own.
Grande’s current beau, Los Angeles realtor Dalton Gomez, shared some celebratory pics of his own, but not quite as horticultural.
The climactic flower-festooned crown and gown seen in Midsommar took costume designer Andrea Flesch a month to create, working with a team of five. “She was very brave,” Flesch told V. F. in an interview last year, regarding Pugh’s willingness to suffer under a heavy crown and dress with over 10,000 silk flowers.
