A man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his own father to death for being in a same-sex relationship in Uttar Pradesh, India.
The father, identified by the authorities as Reshpal, was found dead in a sugarcane field in the Khatuauli area of Muzaffarnagar 18 August, according to India Today.
Sumit Kumar, the victim’s son, was later detained and confessed to police that he slew his father for falling in love with another man.
Doing so “tarnished the reputation” of the family, he told law enforcement Sunday (12 September), The Times of India reported.
Kumar initially sought to frame three other people for the murder by filing cases against them. They had conspired to kill Reshpal, he told police – a scenario quickly debunked by investigators.
Son killed own father who wanted to transfer home to his lover
As detectives interrogated Kumar, he claimed he stabbed his father to death for being in a relationship with a man.
He also told police his father wished to transfer his property to the man he was in a relationship with.
In a similar case earlier this year, a man reportedly murdered his former lover with the help of two friends in an alarming act of violence that left activists deeply shaken.
Mohammed Siddique confessed to murdering hotelier Mohammed Afroz with two accomplices, according to The Times of India, in Bengaluru, the capital of the southwestern Indian state of Karnataka.
Siddique and his accomplices murdered Afroz and dumped his body on a railway track. The three allegedly killed the victim after he sought sexual favours from one of them, and made abusive remarks about one of their girlfriends.
Afroz was shaken when Siddique showed him photographs of his current girlfriend, prompting him to begin avoiding Siddique, police said in January.
Siddique later confessed to Bengaluru City Police that he murdered Afroz with the help of Mohammed Khaleel, a carpenter, and fellow welder Mubarak.
