Eduardo Bolsonaro, who is almost as homophobic as his father Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro, has been invited by US conservatives to speak at one Washington DC’s biggest political events.
The Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) describes itself as “the largest and most influential gathering of conservatives in the world”, and this year speakers will include Donald Trump and Mike Pence.
According to the conference agenda, Eduardo Bolsonaro will take the stage on Saturday, February 29.
In October 2019, Bolsonaro was the star of a CPAC event in Brazil which he described as “the most important moment of my public life”.
According to investigative news organisation Mother Jones, he at one point stood on stage in front of a photo right-wing Brazilian political pundit Olavo de Carvalho, who spreads conspiracy theories via his YouTube channel including that heterosexual people cannot contract HIV and that Pepsi is sweetened with cells from aborted fetuses.
In 2019 ACU hosted several international CPAC events, one of which was #CPACbrazil, thanks to @BolsonaroSP. At #CPAC2020 he’ll share how our conservative movement inspires freedom-loving people across the globe & how the US & Brazil can work together to stop socialism. pic.twitter.com/sXEEz4rLFx

Eduardo Bolsonaro has a long anti-LGBT+ history and has supported military dictatorship.
The president’s third son made headlines worldwide in October 2019 when he suggested that to defeat a “radicalised left”, Brazil could revive tactics used by the military dictatorship, which ended in 1985.

Similar to his “proud homophobe” father, he has repeatedly criticised LGBT+ rights, and in 2019 posted a photo of him wearing a t-shirt captions the acronym with the words “Liberty, guns, Bolsonaro, Trump”. He wrote: The concept of LGBT+ was successfully updated by an Ecuadorian who lives in Argentina and gave me this shirt here in Brazil. Do you like it?”
He said in 2014 that a proposed law to make homophobia a crime in Brazil was a plot “to create a super race”.
In 2018 he posted on Twitter about conversion therapy, saying it was “inconsistent” that if a “gay wants to become straight” it is seen as prejudiced, because if a heterosexual person wanted to become gay they would definitely be “treated”.
Last year, when asked about same-sex marriage by an Israeli TV station, the Brazilian president’s son compared gay relationships to relationships between humans and animals.
He said: “I don’t care. If you say that it only takes love to be a family, you will say that my dog and I – I love my dog – are a family. You see?
“You open the door to many things.”
