Britney Spears has spoken out against any suggestions to make a biopic of her life after actor Millie Bobby Brown suggested she could play her in a film.

During an interview on the Drew Barrymore Show, the Stranger Things star opened up about who she would want to portray on the big screen.

“I want to play a real person and I think for me, Britney. [It] would be Britney Spears. I think her story, first of all, resonates with me.

Just growing up in the public eye watching her videos, watching interviews of how when she was younger. I mean, same thing with you [Barrymore].

“I see the scramble for words [in her interviews] and I don’t know her, but when I look at pictures of her, I feel like I could tell her story in the right way and hers only.”

Both Millie Bobby Brown and Drew Barrymore have spoken publicly about their negative experiences growing up as child stars – and the exploitation and sexualisation that came with it.

Although Britney has also experienced and spoken about these themes in her life, not least the conservatorship which controlled her for nearly 14 years, she was not having any of it.

Taking to Instagram, the singer wrote: “I hear about people wanting to do movies about my life … dude I’m not dead !!! Although it’s pretty f**king clear they [Britney’s family] preferred me dead.”

This echoes what she said in a video she posted a year ago to social media, where she said: “All these people are starting to send me all these scripts for my own life but none of these scripts are even true.

“Aren’t I supposed to play the role in my own life? I’m not dead what are they thinking?”

Fans are divided over Britney’s comments, with some jumping to her defence that she can air any opinions she wants since being freed from her conservatorship.

Everyone has told her story without her input consent & without facts! It wasn’t a dig at Millie Bobby Brown, it was Britney wanting to voice her story, her life told by her, respect that,” one person wrote.

While another pointed out that she didn’t even specifically call out Millie Bobby Brown. “She just said she doesn’t wanna have to relive her trauma through some cash-grab movie when she very much still alive and can tell her won story when she’s ready”.

Someone else posted: “People talking about making movies about her life when Britney herself isn’t interested in having a movie made is exploitative.

“She didn’t like the documentaries about her either. She has good reason to not like people eager to tell her story without her.”

On the other hand, others think her comments were too harsh on Millie Bobby Brown who was simply expressing her future hopes.

“Millie was asked about it in an interview. I’m sorry I love Britney and I understand she’s been through a lot but the way she’s been speaking to and about people who mean no harm is not right,” one person said.

Britney Spears and her fans have previously called out people telling her story without consent, after 60 Minutes Australia released an exclusive tell-all interview with ex-husband Kevin Federline.

In an Instagram story about the documentary, she wrote: “It saddens me to hear that my ex-husband has decided to discuss the relationship between me and my children.

“As we all know, raising teenage boys is never easy for anyone…. I gave them everything… Only one word: HURTFUL.”

Meanwhile, in January her sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, release a nationally bestselling memoir in which Spears called out saying: “You are scum.”
