Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s recent single “WAP” became a point of contention among right-wing conservative figures following its release, due to the “vulgar” lyrics celebrating sex-positivity. (The pundit Ben Shapiro, once referred to as “the cool kid’s philosopher” by The New York Times, was relentlessly mocked following his recent comments on the song. “My only real concern is that the women involved—who apparently require a ‘bucket and a mop’—get the medical care they require,” he wrote on Twitter earlier this week.)

“WAP”—and the subsequent backlash it received from conservatives—was a point of discussion on The Daily Show last night (August 13), where host Trevor Noah and correspondent Dulce Sloan talked about the song’s lyrics and how they were received. “I bet if it was a country music star that sang the same lyrics, all these men would still be upset,” said Sloan.
