The 2024 Oscar nominations were announced back in January. Within the Best Original Score category, veteran composer John Williams (Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny) will compete against Jerskin Fendrix (Poor Things), Laura Karpman (American Fiction), Ludwig Göransson (Oppenheimer), and Band frontman Robbie Robertson (Killers of the Flower Moon).
Barbie is a big player in the Best Original Song section, receiving nods for Billie Eilish’s ballad “What Was I Made For?” and “I’m Just Ken,” performed in the movie by Ryan Gosling. The remaining nominees are Becky G for the Flamin’ Hot track “The Fire Inside,” Jon Batiste’s “It Never Went Away” from American Symphony, and Osage Tribal Singers’ “Wahzhazhe (A Song for My People)” from Killers of the Flower Moon.
This year’s Best Picture category once again features a stacked list of 10 nominees: American Fiction, Anatomy of a Fall, Barbie, The Holdovers, Killers of the Flower Moon, Maestro, Oppenheimer, Past Lives, Poor Things, and The Zone of Interest will vie for the title.
