Shortly before his death, Jimmy Buffett completed an album, Equal Strain on All Parts, that is due out November 3, Rolling Stone and Relix note. Now, you can hear three singles from it: “Bubbles Up,” “My Gummie Just Kicked In,” and “Like My Dog.”
In his tribute last week to the late singer, Paul McCartney, who appears on “My Gummie Just Kicked In,” praised “Bubbles Up,” which Buffett co-wrote with Will Kimbrough. McCartney wrote, “I told [Buffett] that not only was [‘Bubbles Up’] great but the vocal was probably the best I’ve heard him sing ever. He turned a diving phrase that is used to train people underwater into a metaphor for life when you’re confused and don’t know where you are just follow the bubbles—they’ll take you up to the surface and straighten you out right away.”
Buffett died of skin cancer at 76 on September 1. As well as McCartney, Equal Strain on All Parts features Emmylou Harris, Angélique Kidjo, and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, with Buffett’s Coral Reefers bandmembers Michael Utley and Mac McAnally on production.
