Ketchy the Great, the Los Angeles rapper best known as a member of the Stinc Team alongside Drakeo the Ruler, has died. His management confirmed the news to Pitchfork. Further details surrounding his death are currently unknown.

Born Jameon Davis, Ketchy made his name in L.A.’s underground rap scene. He appeared on multiple songs by fellow Stinc Team members like Drakeo and Ralfy the Plug. Ketchy was also prolific as a solo artist; his breakout track “If I Go Broke” arrived at the end of 2017. 03 Greedo’s acclaimed 2018 album The Wolf of Grape Street includes four different Ketchy features.

Ketchy was arrested in 2018 for spray painting graffiti in his and Ralfy the Plug’s video for “The Right Decision.” Because Stinc Team has been labeled a gang by the Los Angeles County District Attorney, he was charged with vandalism with a gang enhancement and witness intimidation with gang enhancement. He ultimately spent two years and 10 months in prison. “It was a bunch of bullshit,” Ketchy said of the charges in a December interview on the PALM podcast

A solo mixtape called Free Sauce was released while he was in 2019, which featured 03 Greedo and Shoreline Mafia. In his interview on PALM, Ketchy said that he began to realize that his music was becoming more popular while he was locked up.

“When I went to jail, a n—a wasn’t going crazy—like I had a couple songs that started takin’ off. So while I’m in there, it’s just motherfuckers comin’ up to me like, ‘Yo you’re Ketchy the Great, I fuck with your shit.’ It’s crazy ‘cause when I was on the streets, n—as wasn’t really coming up to me, noticing me, or recognizing me. But once I was in the county and I was sittin’ down for like six, seven months, everybody who’s comin’ in that motherfucker’s like ‘Hey Ketchy, yo Ketchy, sign my cup!’ And I’m like damn, I’m signing my first fuckin’ autographs in the county.”

After Ketchy was released in August 2020, he put out a video for the new song “Another One.” He also put out a song called “Gang Enhancement.” He appeared on Drakeo’s new mixtape We Know the Truth. Just days ago, a new Drakeo and Ketchy song called “For Real” was released.
