Flavor Flav has responded to being fired from longtime group Public Enemy yesterday. “Are you kidding me right now…over Bernie Sanders,” the rapper tweeted at Chuck today (March 2). Flav added: “You wanna destroy something we’ve built over 35 years OVER POLITICS??? all because I don’t wanna endorse a candidate…I’m very disappointed in you and your decisions right now Chuck.” He continued: “I’m not your employee, I’m your partner. You can’t fire me. There is no Public Enemy without Flavor Flav.” Find his full remarks below.

Conflict between Flavor Flav and Chuck D arose last week following the news that Public Enemy Radio was scheduled to play a Bernie Sanders rally in Los Angeles on March 1. Prior to the event, Flav issued a cease and desist letter to the Bernie Sanders campaign alleging that his likeness, image, and trademarked clock were used in promotional materials for the rally without his permission. The announcement technically stated that Public Enemy Radio would perform at the rally. Public Enemy Radio’s lineup features Chuck D, DJ Lord, Jahi, and the S1Ws, however Flavor Flav is not a member.

Yesterday, in addition to performing at the Sanders rally, Public Enemy issued an official statement announcing that they would move forward as a group without Flavor Flav. “We thank him for his years of service and wish him well,” the group wrote.

Chuck D later tweeted about the incident. “Spoke @BernieSanders rally with @EnemyRadio,” he wrote. “If there was a $bag, Flav would’ve been there front & center. He will NOT do free benefit shows. Sued me in court the 1st time I let him back in. His ambulance lawyer sued me again on Friday & so now he stays home & better find REHAB.” Flavor Flav disputed suing Chuck D over the Sanders rally promotional materials. “I asked the @berniesanders campaign to correct misleading marketing, that’s all it was,” he wrote.
