Demi Lovato said she was rendered “speechless” when asked to perform at Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ inauguration.

In an Instagram post uploaded Wednesday (13 January), the “Sorry, Not Sorry” singer announced she will be among the Hollywood heavyweights headlining Celebrating America.

The president-elect’s inaugural committee will be producing the primetime special as the rampaging coronavirus makes in-person events, such as concerts or parades, impossible.

According to Hollywood Reporter, Tom Hanks will host the 90-minute special and Lovato will be joined by Justin Timberlake, Jon Bon Jovi and Ant Clemons.

“I’m SO honoured to announce that I will be joining Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for their special event, Celebrating America on January 20th at 8:30pm ET/PT,” Lovato wrote in the caption.

“I was left speechless when I was asked to perform!”

“This inauguration presents a unique opportunity to spotlight the resilience and spirit of an America United,” said Presidential Inaugural Committee chief Tony Allen in a statement.

“We have witnessed countless heroes this past year step up to the frontlines and serve their fellow Americans, so we are telling their stories, spreading their collective light, and celebrating the best of our country and its people with this prime-time program.

“Our first priority is safety — so while many of us will be watching safely from our homes, we are creating real moments of connection that highlight a new inclusive American era of leadership that works for and represents all Americans.”

The program will be aired live on ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC and MSNBC, alongside streamed live on the committee’s YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and Twitch channels.

Demi Lovato tore into Donald Trump with a defiant protest song.

Lovato was among a rafter of high-profile singers that included Lady Gaga who made clear their opposition to now outgoing US president Donald Trump.

Ahead of the 2020 presidential election, the 28-year-old dropped a potent, political-charged song that called out Trump’s bungled handling of the COVID-19 crisis while encouraging listeners to hit the polls.

“Commander in Chief”, which Lovato co-wrote, featured the lyrics: “Do you even know the truth/We’re in a state of crisis

“People are dying/While you line your pockets deep

“Commander in chief/How does it feel/To still be able to breathe?”
