Courtney Barnett to Soundtrack Brazen Hussies Documentary

Music

Courtney Barnett and her Milk! labelmate Evelyn Ida Morris have signed on to write the music for an upcoming documentary called Brazen Hussies, a film exploring Australia’s Women’s Liberation Movement in the 1960s and ’70s.

The film, directed by Catherine Dwyer, curates a selection of archival footage, photographs and personal accounts from Australian women’s rights activists. Morris is credited as composer, with Barnett as her co-writer. The production is still in development and “seeking donations to support the film’s production, soundtrack and artwork.”

Barnett dropped an MTV Unplugged live album last December, recorded in her hometown of Melbourne, Australia. In October she contributed a cover of Loose Tooth’s “Keep On” to Milk!’s Milk on Milk compilation, which featured the Melbourne label’s artists covering each other’s songs.
