Brooklyn Metal Venue Saint Vitus Announces 10th Anniversary Book

Featuring previously unpublished photos, essays by Laura Jane Grace and Chuck Klosterman, and more

Saint Vitus, a metal bar and venue in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, has announced a new book called Saint Vitus Bar, The First 10 Years: An Oral and Visual History. Check out a preview of the book and a short film on its creation below.

The 346-page book comprises previously unpublished photos of the 2014 afterparty for Nirvana’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and shows by Descendents, Chelsea Wolfe, Deafheaven, and Anthrax, as well as essays by Trevor Strnad, Laura Jane Grace, Chuck Klosterman, and more. Pre-orders are available via Kickstarter, with an expected release on Halloween (October 31). The first-edition hardcover is limited to 1,000 copies.

Saint Vitus was founded in 2011 when George Souleidis and Arty Shepherd converted a former plumbing school into a bar and venue, bringing in David Castillo (who would eventually become a co-owner) to book the stage in the space’s back room. It hosted early shows by Deafheaven, Chelsea Wolfe, and Zola Jeus, among others, as well as uncharacteristically intimate shows from larger acts like Blink-182, Kim Gordon, Killing Joke, Megadeth, Anthrax, and more.
