Billy Joel performed at the 2024 Grammy Awards tonight, and below, you can watch him do it. The Long Island singer-songwriter, who performed multiple times in the 1980s and ’90s, returned to play his new song “Turn the Lights Back on”—his first in 17 years—at “at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. He released the single in early February ahead of the ceremony. Joel also closed the show with his classic 1980 cut “You May Be Right.”

Joel was not up for any awards this year, and has not been since 2002, when he was nominated alongside Tony Bennett for their duet of “New York State of Mind,” which Joel originally released in 1976 and had performed at the 1988 Grammys. Joel and Bennett ended up losing in the Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals category to Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, Mya, and Pink’s version of the Labelle classic “Lady Marmalade.”
