Be Your Own Pet Share First New Song in 15 Years: Watch the Video

“Hand Grenade,” a Third Man release, is the group’s first new song since reuniting last year

After reuniting last year and playing a few shows, Be Your Own Pet have released their first new song in 15 years. “Hand Grenade,” a single released via Third Man Records, arrives today with a new video shot in Jemina Pearl’s basement. Watch it below.

“‘Hand Grenade’ started out as a threat to the people who harmed me, that I will make them suffer as I have suffered,” Pearl said in a statement. “But the song grew like a mirror to my own grief process, through anger, denial, sorrow. In the end I gain my power back not through violence, but through self acceptance and rejection of the labels others might put on me. I define myself, no one else.”

The band features the lineup of Jemina Pearl, Jonas Stein, Nathan Vasquez, and John Eatherly. Be Your Own Pet set to perform at Shaky Knees and Primavera Sound this year.
