‘Venom 3’ Stakes Out Late Fall 2024 Theatrical Release As Actors Strike Ends & Pic Resumes Production

November 8, 2024 belongs to Venom 3. Sony always had the date on hold for a Marvel movie. It was for this film. The movie previously had a July 14, 2024 date set. That wasn’t in the cards as this actors strike hit 118 days with studios and SAG-AFTRA reaching a new three-year deal tonight.

Venom 3 is one of handful of big Hollywood films looking to resume shooting as soon as possible before the end of the year.

Tom Hardy returns as the lethal protector Venom. The film is directed by Kelly Marcel who also wrote the screenplay with the story by Marcel and Hardy. Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal, Kelly Marcel, Tom Hardy and Hutch Parker are producing.

Through two movies the Venom franchise counts $1.36 billion worldwide at the box office. At the domestic B.O., 2021’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage owns the third best opening for October at $90M while the first Venom in 2018 has the fourth best for the month at $80.2M.

Sony will have access to PLFs and Imax screens on the new date.

Venom 3 leaves behind an untitled New Line horror movie on July 14 next year, and enters a frame where the 20th Century Studios Rachel Brosnahan-Rami Malek action thriller The Amateur is dated.

Still to be dated is Sony’s Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse which was moved off the Easter weekend 2024 release to TBD; that film still needing its actors to record voiceovers. That pic’s sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse proved superhero fatigue at the box office doesn’t exist, grossing over $690M WW this past summer.
