The new Xbox Developer Direct has finally revealed more details for the upcoming Fable reboot, including the long-awaited release date for the game. Originally unveiled in 2020, the upcoming installment comes courtesy of Playground Games, the studio behind the Forza Horizon series.
Per the Xbox Developer Direct livestream, Fable will release on Xbox, PC, and PlayStation in Autumn 2026. The new game promises a wide variety of features, including fully customizable characters and open-world exploration.
Playground is intent on stressing the game’s allegiance to the classic Fable vibe, with a focus on the possibilities of what it means to be a hero. Classic enemies like Hobbes and Trolls are returning, and Playground promises “quite a few chickens.“
Thanks to Playground’s open-world expertise, there’s obviously a major graphical step-up from past Fable games, and the showcase highlights quite a few gorgeous vistas. This time, it’s a proper open-world experience across the board, allowing free exploration of Albion. Within that context, there are over a thousand NPCs (featuring their own schedules), and it’s possible for the hero to buy any house or business.
