Sony’s latest Bad Boys sequel had a theatrical release date of June 14, 2024. But the studio really wants June 7, and that’s where it’s now dating the Will Smith-Martin Lawrence reteam.
News of the change Monday comes in the wake of Lionsgate pushing its John Wick spinoff Ballerina a year, from June 7, 2024 to June 6, 2025. The Santa Monica-based studio backfilled the date with its reboot of The Crow from filmmaker Rupert Sanders.
However, Sony will have Imax and PLFs for Bad Boys 4, which is still awaiting a title.
Bad Boys for Life filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah return to direct Smith and Lawrence for the latest installment off a screenplay by Chris Bremner. Producers are Jerry Bruckheimer, Smith and Doug Belgrad. Executive producers are Lawrence, James Lassiter, Chad Oman, Mike Stenson, Barry Waldman and Jon Mone.
Bad Boys 4 also stars Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Paola Núnez, Jacob Scipio, Eric Dane and Ioan Gruffudd.
Through three movies, the Bad Boys franchise counts $841million at the global box office.
With its move to early June, Bad Boys 4 leaves behind Inside Out 2 on Father’s Day weekend, with the relentless word of mouth from distribution sources being that Disney/Pixar’s sequel will be massive.
