Tiger King star Joe Exotic has likened prison to the “American slave trade” in a letter invoking the name of George Floyd and asking Black Lives Matter supporters to push for prison reforms.
In an open letter, Exotic referenced the brutal killing of Floyd, a Black man who died after white police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for eight minutes last month.
“You got the attention of the world over the murder of Mr Floyd. Now you want to take the police out of your cities.” Exotic wrote in the letter to Tiger King fan Kathleen Lafferty, which he instructed her to post on his Facebook page.
In his letter – seen by The New York Post – Exotic claimed that police lie on official reports and in court in order to send people like him to prison.
Tiger King star Joe Exotic likened prison to the ‘American slave trade’.
He said they do this “so they can keep the American slave trade”, and lashed out at Unicor, the United States’ government’s prison labour programme.
Exotic urged people to “demand a law be passed to change these people with power for perjury and internal corruption” and said “the problem does not stop on the street”.
Once they get you, they abuse you and they work you for 50 cents an hour, look up who makes money off what’s made in state and federal prisons.
“You must go inside, behind the closed doors where the cover-ups and the dirty deals are done between the people in power in order to legally kidnap you or your loved ones,” Exotic added.
“Once they get you, they abuse you and they work you for 50 cents an hour, look up who makes money off what’s made in state and federal prisons.”
He then said his case needs to be reopened “for false statements and perjury” and claimed “there is proof” of this.
The former zookeeper recently claimed that his ‘soul is dead’ and called on Donald Trump to pardon him.
Exotic’s latest letter comes just a week after he wrote to fans claiming his “soul is dead” and that he will be “dead within two to three months” if Donald Trump doesn’t pardon him.
In the letter, seen by TMZ, he compared his prison sentence to death row and urged the president of the United States to “keep his word and look into making this wrong a right”.
Exotic is currently serving a 22-year sentence on two counts of murder-for-hire, eight counts of violating the Lacey Act for falsifying wildlife records, and nine counts of violating the Endangered Species Act.
He paid a man $3,000 to travel to Florida and kill Carole Baskin of Big Cat Rescue in November 2017.
Exotic rapidly rose to international fame earlier this year when the hit documentary series Tiger King hit Netflix, which charted his journey to prison.
