Lil Nas X and James Charles are not hooking up, the musician made clear after a YouTube video of the pair together sparked speculation.
The musician surprised fans this week by making an appearance on the make-up guru’s YouTube channel to promote his new Christmas single “Holiday”.
In the video released on Tuesday (17 November), Nas gets a festive futuristic make-up transformation from Charles inspired by the track.
He explained in the video: “I was like, let me step out of my comfort zone a little bit, and now I’m here with James Charles.”
The pair’s brief moments of flirtation in the video led some fans to speculate on Twitter about whether they were anything more than friends.
One volunteered: “I just know they f***ed after this,” while another wrote: “Two bottoms doesn’t make a top”.
Addressing the comments, Nas made clear: “Two gay men can do things together without y’all sexualising it”.
Lil Nas X tells James Charles all about his Nicki Minaj stan account.
In the collab video, James Charles quizzed Lil Nas X about his past running a since-deleted Nicki Minaj fan account on Twitter.
He explained: “I had a stan account for some years. I was pretty much a huge fan of Nicki, I still am. She’s an icon, she’s a legend.
“I wanted to step away from the account, especially starting a music career and everything, and I wanted to be my own person.”
Charles also asked Nas about experiencing homophobic abuse from 50 Cent, after the rapper attempted to mock him for dressing up as Minaj for Halloween.
Avoiding mentioning 50 Cent by name, the musician responded: “It didn’t make me mad. It got this person so interested into what I was doing that he posted me on his own accounts, you know?
“It’s like, I definitely did something right! If you didn’t make anyone mad, you probably didn’t do something right, is how I feel about it.
“I want to break down these barriers, so when the next wave of LGBT+ rappers and entertainers come up, they’re in a better space.”
Speaking about coming out, he said: “It was nerve-racking, it was scary as hell, and then not knowing what was on the other side. But it was just like, a feeling, and I was already feeling so free with everything happening, I was just like, heeey everybody!”
