Netflix pioneered streaming. They were the first major player in the game and despite some setbacks remain the platform with the largest base. Say what you will about their willy-nilly cancellation policies, they have some quality original programming. Speaking of which, a Netflix original series recently garnered praise from one Stephen King. So, you know we have taken note and now have some tea to spill.

The original series in question is the political thriller The Diplomat. To be clear, this is wholly unrelated to the British show of the same name released around the same time.

The second season of the Netflix program landed on the platform recently and claimed the top chart position earlier this week. Not to mention, the series’ first season ranked amongst the top ten most-watched programs on the platform globally for a full month.

What did Stephen King say about The Diplomat?

Prolific author and frequent Twitter user Stephen King previously praised the show during its inaugural season, saying: “The Diplomat (Netflix) is just terrific. Dialogue so sharp it could cut your skin, as my old buddy Peter Straub used to say. Bonus: No teen angst.”

The bestselling author doubled down on his appreciation for the program following the launch of the second season, quote-tweeting a post calling the show “jaw-droopingly fantastic.” King’s quote tweet reads: “Agreed. That final scene!”

The setup for The Diplomat goes like this:

Amid an international crisis, a career diplomat juggles her new high-profile job as ambassador to the United Kingdom and her turbulent marriage to a political star.

Debora Cahn created the series for Netflix. She also penned the teleplay for multiple episodes. Keri Russell, Rufus Sewell, David Gyasi, Ali Ahn, Rory Kinnear, and Ato Essandoh topline the program.

The show has been nominated for a Golden Globe, a SAG award, and an Emmy. Though The Diplomat has yet to bring home a win at any of those ceremonies, just being nominated is a huge distinction. Not to mention, the program has already been picked up for a third season. If you’re on the fence, check out the trailer in the player below.
