‘The Mummy’ – ’90s Hit Starring Brendan Fraser Returning to Theaters for 25th Anniversary!

While the original classic The Mummy just celebrated its 90th anniversary, the blockbuster hit remake from the late 1990s is celebrating its own 25th anniversary here in 2024.

Universal Pictures today announced the U.S. theatrical re-release of the blockbuster action-adventure, The Mummy, in celebration of its 25th anniversary. The film, directed by Stephen Sommers and starring Oscar® winners Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, along with John Hannah and Arnold Vosloo, will return to theaters nationwide on April 26, 2024.

The Mummy made a thunderous debut in May 1999, commanding an impressive $43.4 million domestically during its opening weekend, solidifying its place atop the box office charts. With its compelling mix of heart-pounding action, captivating storytelling and groundbreaking visual effects, the film quickly captivated audiences worldwide, becoming one of the highest-grossing movies of the year, both domestically and globally.

Tickets for the re-release of The Mummy will be available for purchase starting April 5th on Fandango and through theater ticketing sites nationwide. Additionally, audiences can catch the new re-release trailer in theaters beginning April 5th.

The Mummy follows the story of American adventurer Rick O’Connell (Fraser) as he leads an expedition to Hamunaptra, the legendary city of the dead. There, alongside Egyptologist Evelyn Carnahan (Weisz) and her brother Jonathan (Hannah), he unwittingly awakens Imhotep (Vosloo), an ancient Egyptian priest cursed to suffer eternal damnation. Imhotep seeks to resurrect his lost love, and the team must race against time to stop him before he unleashes unspeakable horrors on the world.

The Mummy left a lasting impact on popular culture, inspiring a successful franchise that includes two sequels, spin-off films and a prequel series.
