A long-running horror franchise based on a classic Stephen King tale returns with a brand new installment this week, and it’s joined by six additional new release horror movies.

First up, the Bloody Disgusting-powered SCREAMBOX premiered Lukas Rinker‘s black comedy Holy Shit! today, now streaming exclusively on the SCREAMBOX platform.
Living up to its title, the single-location German splatterfest explores the horrors of being trapped inside a portable toilet. Scriptwriter and director Lukas Rinker has created an ultimate worst-case scenario that feels relatable yet unimaginable at the same time when Architect Frank awakens bloodily trapped inside a portable toilet standing on a construction site…
“Architect Frank (Thomas Niehaus) regains consciousness in a locked portable toilet on a construction site where a detonation is being prepared. As he desperately tries to find ways of escaping this prison before potentially being blown to smithereens, he realizes who has put him into this predicament: none other than the corrupt and lecherous mayor Horst (Gedeon Burkhard) who also has designs on Frank‘s pregnant girlfriend Marie (Olga von Luckwald). Now Frank has to do everything in his power to get out alive, save his Marie and expose Horst‘s delusional crimes.”
Holy Shit! won the Audience Award at its world premiere at last year’s Hard:Line Film Festival and was shown at several prestigious genre festivals such as Night Visions Film Festival in Helsinki, FrightFest London, Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival. At the Fantaspoa 2022 the black comedy received an Honorable Mention for the Best Blood (and shit) Bath.
Holy Shit! is a German production by Neopol Film in co-production with Studio Hamburg Enterprises. The production was supported and funded by the HessenFilm und Medien GmbH.
Director Kurt Wimmer‘s new take on Stephen King‘s horror novel Children of the Corn first arrived in theaters earlier this month, and it’s now available on Digital today.
What about physical media, you ask? We’ve learned this week that Children of the Corn 2023 will be hitting Blu-ray on May 9, 2023, with Deleted Scenes included on the disc.
The new movie is the eleventh overall installment in the long-running franchise, and the first movie in the saga since John Gulager’s Children of the Corn: Runaway in 2018.
In Wimmer’s movie, which is said to have very little to do with King’s novel, “Possessed by a spirit in a dying cornfield, a twelve-year-old girl in Nebraska recruits the other children in her small town to go on a bloody rampage and kill all the adults and anyone else who opposes her. A bright high schooler who won’t go along with the plan is the town’s only hope of survival.”
The new film’s cast includes Elena Kampouris (Before I Fall), Kate Moyer (“When Hope Calls”), Callan Mulvey (Avengers: Endgame) and Bruce Spence (The Road Warrior).
Kurt Wimmer, for those who don’t recognize his name, is the director of films including the Christian Bale-starring Equilibrium and the Milla Jovovich-starring Ultraviolet. Children of the Corn is his first movie since 2006, though he did more recently write films include Law Abiding Citizen, Salt, Total Recall, and Point Break, as well as the 2020 horror movie Spell.
Indie horror-thriller The Headmistress also hit VOD streaming platforms today.
Produced by Three Tortured Minds and Dusty Horse Productions and distributed by Indican Pictures, The Headmistress was directed by Christopher A. Micklos and Jay Sapiro.
In the film, “When a debt-ridden teacher inherits an abandoned lakefront inn, she and a group of potential buyers visit the property, where they discover a dark, sinister secret and a malignant supernatural presence determined to keep them there forever.”
The Headmistress‘s ensemble cast is led by Chicago-based actress Katherine Bellantone, and also includes Tom Dacey Carr, Hunter O’Harrow, Thomas J. McCarthy, Ayden Skye, DeChantel Kosmatka, David Sapiro, and Valerie Meachum.
From the producers of Anna and the Apocalypse, the found footage horror movie Followers is hoping you’ll like, comment and subscribe when it hits VOD on Friday, March 24.
From Terror Films, Followers is said to “combine horror with black comedy to satirize today’s influencer generation while bringing a fresh new spin to the found-footage genre.”
What starts as hilariously bad YouTube videos develops into a warning to the world about a shocking new strain of supernatural serial killer…
Jonty, a failing influencer with an ambition to reach over a million followers, will stop at nothing to become famous. A new start at university brings with it hopes of a resurgence in his popularity when a demonic presence appears in his student house. Jonty decides to stream his and his housemates’ experiences with this supernatural entity to gain the fame and fortune he’s most been craving. But at what cost? To create an authentic found footage feel over 70% of Followers was filmed by the actors themselves.
Directed by the late Marcus Harben, the film stars Harry Jarvis (Netflix’s Knight Before Christmas), Loreece Harrison (“Black Mirror”), Erin Austen (“The Royals”), Daniel Cahill (Anna and the Apocalypse), Nina Wadia (Aladdin), Orion Lee (Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi), and Tanya Burr.
We all die in the dark. Robbie Banfitch‘s The Outwaters is now streaming on SCREAMBOX, and we’ve got TWO more treats on the way with a prequel and epilogue to the film!
The Outwaters spends a lot of time building the characters before things take a turn for the worse, and for those who want more, Card Zero & File VL-624 should do the trick.
Card Zero is a prequel short film that’s derived from a memory card that police obtained at Robbie’s apartment. It’s self-contained and carries more character context. It’s a foreboding little slice-of-life love story with an air of doom hanging over it, considering you know what’s going to happen in The Outwaters.
On the other hand, File VL-624, an epilogue to The Outwaters, features restored footage from all four of Robbie Zagorac’s memory cards. Property of Mojave County Police Department, File VL-624 is all the restored files (some corrupted) they couldn’t originally get off cards.

Directed by Jordan Ross, Vertical Entertainment will be releasing the thriller The Tutor in theaters on Friday, March 24, starring Garrett Hedlund and Noah Schapp (“Stranger Things”).
In the film, “An in-demand tutor for the East Coast monied elite, Ethan (Garrett Hedlund) lands a high-paying assignment to instruct a billionaire’s son, Jackson (Noah Schnapp), at a remote New York waterfront estate. Almost immediately, Ethan realizes that his student’s interest in his life borders upon obsession.
“As tension grows, Jackson’s accusations threaten to expose Ethan’s perceived dark secrets to his girlfriend (Victoria Justice) and the authorities. As sentiment turns against Ethan, it is up to him, and only him, to unearth Jackson’s accusations and prove his innocence.”
Ryan King wrote the script for The Tutor.
