‘Mortal Kombat’: Joe Taslim Wants to Make a Sub-Zero Prequel and We Want What Joe Taslim Wants

Horror

The standout highlight of the new Mortal Kombat movie is the long-running feud between Sub-Zero (Joe Taslim) and Scorpion (Hiroyuki Sanada) which book-ends the film with two fight scenes that take place hundreds of years apart. Sub-Zero and Scorpion are of course mortal enemies, and it’s Scorpion who ultimately ends up defeating his adversary.

What’s next for the iconic characters? Well, it’s no secret that death is never truly death in the world of Mortal Kombat, and in fact Taslim is already signed on for a handful of sequels should the Warner Bros. movie prove successful enough to warrant them actually being made. The box office take may indeed warrant that, but at this time nothing has been set in stone.

If Taslim had his way, however, he’d be back for a Sub-Zero prequel tale.

The most interesting path, in my opinion, is to do a prequel,” Taslim tells THR. “It would be a story about Bi-Han and his training in the Lin Kuei. When he got abducted by the Lin Kuei, his parents were killed. So it would be the process of him and his brother becoming assassins.… We would get to see two future Sub-Zeros in one movie, and that would be intriguing.”

Of course, Mortal Kombat 2 could also reintroduce Sub-Zero as Noob Saibot…

If the fans want this franchise to continue, then there’s a strong chance that the next step for Bi-Han is to play Noob Saibot,” Taslim mentions during the same interview. “Fingers crossed, but I hope it happens because I definitely want to play that character. If they do a sequel, then we are probably going to see Noob Saibot.”
