Jordan Peele’s ‘Nope’ Crosses $80 Million at the Domestic Box Office

Horror

Jordan Peele‘s two previous horror movies, Get Out and Us, both hit $175 million domestically and $255 million worldwide by the end of their respective runs, numbers that Peele’s third movie isn’t likely to hit at the box office. Nevertheless, Nope is nothing short of a win for “R” rated original horror, with the film now crossing $80 million domestically as of this weekend.

In its second week of release, Nope has racked up $80,583,000 to date. The film pulled in $18 million this past weekend, bumped to #2 on the charts behind DC League of Super-Pets.

Here’s a crazy stat. Nope’s $44 million debut during the film’s opening weekend was the highest domestic debut for an original movie since Jordan Peele’s Us back in 2019!

Nope is Peele’s most expensive movie to date, with a reported $68 million going into the production. That means it’s going to have to scare up more box office dollars in order to break even, but the international numbers will no doubt help the cause. At this time international figures are not yet available, so we have no worldwide total to share at the moment.

Stay tuned for those numbers as we learn them.

In the film, “Residents in a lonely gulch of inland California who bear witness to an uncanny and chilling discovery.”

Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out) reteams with Peele on the mysterious movie, with the cast also including Steven Yeun (“The Walking Dead,” Mayhem) and Keke Palmer (“Scream”). Michael Wincott (The Crow), Barbie Ferreira and Brandon Perea also star.

Meagan Navarro was a fan of the film, writing in her review that “Jordan Peele takes on the summer blockbuster with soaring spectacle and scathing subtext.”
