Iconic character Velma Dinkley is getting her own “adult animated series” over at HBO Max, and today we’ve learned that the series will premiere on January 12, 2023.

Watch the teaser trailer below, which pays homage to Wes Craven’s Scream!

“Velma” is an adult animated comedy series telling the origin story of Velma Dinkley, the unsung and underappreciated brains of the Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. gang.

An original and humorous spin that unmasks the complex and colorful past of one of America’s most beloved mystery solvers, executive producer Mindy Kaling will voice the titular character.

The voice cast also includes Sam Richardson (Werewolves Within).

Charlie Grandy, Howard Klein and Sam Register also serve as executive producers, the press release sent out today notes. “Velma” is produced by Warner Bros. Animation.

The character of Velma Dinkley has previously been voiced by Nicole Jaffe, Pat Stevens, Marla Frumkin, Christina Lange, B.J. Ward, Mindy Cohn, Stephanie D’Abruzzo, Kate Micucci, Trisha Gum, Ariana Greenblatt, and Gina Rodriguez. She was also played in the world of live-action by Linda Cardellini, in both Scooby-Doo and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed.
