Summer Slashers I Know What You Did Last Summer

Julie James is back! Today, I Know What You Did Last Summer star Jennifer Love Hewitt took to Instagram to confirm that she would, in fact, be returning to the series in the latest installment, set to release next summer. She joins Freddie Prinze, Jr. as the two confirmed series alums reprising their iconic roles in the upcoming reboot.

The reboot, directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge), will follow a similar plot to the original, which follows a group of friends bound by a terrible secret. They come together when they realize a shadowy figure with a hook for a hand is stalking and killing them off, one by one.

Hewitt’s Julie James was the series’ final girl and an icon of 90s horror cinema. Now, she gets to resurrect her role in a new vision for the slasher classic.

Check out her announcement:

Ahead of her official announcement, Hewitt did an interview with the iHeart Radio podcast I’ve Never Said This Before and dropped some juicy hints about what, and who, to expect in the new film. Yes, she even teases that Brandy may be returning!

Watch the full interview:

Hewitt tells interviewer Tommy DiDario that she only wanted to return if she isn’t, as she says, “a ghost of 90s past.” Instead, she wants Julie to actually have a role in the film because she “wants to be there for Julie James fans.”

Hewitt and Prinze, Jr. will appear in the film with series newcomers Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Haur-King. The script was written by Sam Lansky and Kaytin Robinson off a draft by Leah McKendrick.

I Know What You Did Last Summer is set to release in theaters on July 18, 2025.
