Catch This Denzel Washington Thriller Before It Leaves Netflix!

Streaming is a useful innovation. I’m mostly in favor of it. But it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. I don’t love that when I watch a picture on Netflix, Prime, or Hulu, the service keeps tabs on what I’m watching and when I pause, rewind, or turn on the captioning. Not to mention, even if you subscribe to an obscene amount of platforms (which I absolutely do), there are plenty of films that aren’t streaming on any of them. That’s why I also keep a collection of physical media on hand. I like to know that if I want to watch a movie I love, I can do so at any time.

Speaking of watching what you want, when you want, the mucky-mucks at Netflix are gearing up to take down a celebrated Denzel Washington thriller very soon. That’s right. The Oscar-nominated film American Gangster is leaving the platform on January 1st. If you have designs on taking in this gritty tale of a ruthless drug dealer rising to prominence in 1970s New York, act fast.

The setup for this Denzel Washington thriller goes like this:

Harlem drug dealer Frank Lucas rises to power in corrupt 1970s New York, equalling and surpassing the notorious Mafia families with the reach of his empire. On the other side of the law, honest cop Richie Roberts dedicates himself to taking down `the most dangerous man walking the streets’. Lucas acts with impunity, smuggling heroin into the US in the coffins of American soldiers killed in Vietnam.

If you didn’t know, the film is loosely based on the true story of notorious criminal Frank Lucas. The picture is adapted from the New York magazine article “The Return of Superfly” by journalist Mark Jacobson.

Believe me when I say that American Gangster features an absolutely killer cast. In addition to Denzel Washington in the lead role, the film stars Russell Crowe, John Ortiz, Ted Levine, Josh Brolin, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Lymari Nadal, Ruby Dee, and Cuba Gooding Jr.

That’s all we have for you at present. Be sure to stay tuned to Dread Central in the near future for more exciting updates on which films within your interest set are coming and going from your favorite streaming platforms.
