Alamo Drafthouse Brings ‘It Doesn’t Get Any Better Than This’ To Ten Cities This January
Horror

If you’ve been itching to see Rachel Kempf and Nick Toti’s found footage nightmare It Doesn’t Get Any Better Than This, you may just have your chance this Friday! Alamo Drafthouse is bringing the new horror film to ten cities around the U.S. on January 10, 2025, to give viewers a chance to see a film that’ll never be released online!

The film tells the deceptively simple story of two filmmakers who buy a haunted duplex. It was made on a very low budget by three friends in rural Missouri. Despite being self-distributed by co-directors Rachel Kempf and Nick Toti, the film has been steadily growing an audience through word-of-mouth interest among horror fans. After winning awards at numerous film festivals, it was invited to screen as part of Toronto International Film Festival’s Midnight Madness program, alongside blockbuster hits like The Substance.

The filmmakers have opted for a novel distribution strategy by refusing to release the film online. The only way to see It Doesn’t Get Any Better Than This is in a theater, and this partnership with Alamo Drafthouse is its widest release yet.

Here is the list of cities where It Doesn’t Get Any Better Than This will be playing on January 10:

  • Austin, TX at Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar | BUY TICKETS
  • Chicago, IL at Alamo Drafthouse Wrigleyville | BUY TICKETS
  • Dallas, TX at Alamo Drafthouse Richardson | BUY TICKETS
  • Denver, CO at Alamo Drafthouse Sloans Lake | BUY TICKETS
  • Los Angeles, CA at Alamo Drafthouse DTLA | BUY TICKETS
  • New York, NY at Alamo Drafthouse Brooklyn | BUY TICKETS
  • Raleigh, NC at Alamo Drafthouse | BUY TICKETS
  • San Antonio, TX at Alamo Drafthouse Park North | BUY TICKETS
  • San Francisco, CA at Alamo Drafthouse New Mission | BUY TICKETS
  • Twin Cities, MN at Alamo Drafthouse Woodbury | BUY TICKETS

“Traditional distributors have expressed interest in the movie,” says co-director Nick Toti. “But as soon as we tell them that we don’t want the movie to be released online, they basically run away screaming. Apparently, our strategy makes no business sense, but we’re small enough to do things the wrong way. We don’t have any advertising budget or investors we need to repay, so we can be less conservative in how we connect with audiences.”

Despite these limitations, Kempf and Toti’s film has gained impressive fans. Acclaimed horror novelist Paul Tremblay recently saw the film and said,

It Doesn’t Get Any Better Than This is a horror movie fan’s horror movie. It’s smart enough to use your horror brain against you. And it’s weird, funny, disturbing, and squirmy. By the end, it was all I could do to not cover my face with my hands. Don’t buy any abandoned duplexes, but do go see this movie.”

In his review of the film, Dread Central’s Matt Konopka wrote, “With this unsettling feature debut, the filmmakers prove they not only have an impeccable understanding of the genre, but recognize that it’s the mundane things that are sometimes scariest of all.”
