Apparently Single’s Day is a Thing, And It’s Encouraging you to Shop

Whether you are enthusiastically single or bitterly uncoupled, apparently there’s a holiday specifically targeted at you. Single’s Day lands on Nov. 11, or Double 11 as the date suggests, and is a recently adopted Chinese holiday that originated in the ’90s among university students with anti-Valentine’s Day sentiments in mind. Its modern-day configuration has more consumerist properties at its forefront and is now a massive shopping festival oversees (think of it as Black Friday times ten, with livestream shopping events setting record sales from Alibaba and its ilk upwards of $155 billion).

Retailers stateside and beyond are embracing the self-care day with deals of their own. After all, doesn’t the doom of late stage capitalism preside over us in equal part with our fear of a lifetime alone? The cure isn’t shopping, but we’d be lying if we said it didn’t provide temporary relief (so long as you are spending consciously and aim to invest in pieces that aren’t single-use items!). It’s also cuffing season, and a new Prada bag you’ll own for life is probably a better investment than whoever you begrudgingly swiped right on.

The sales aren’t limited to singles only, so join the group retail therapy session and shop the sales below.

italist

The online retailer italist is observing your noncommittal freedom with a sale that encourages you to focus your wallet on yourself. Because italist offers designer goods at Italian prices, it’s like an international loophole that sells items at 20 to 40 percent cheaper than American sticker values. It also categorizes items by season, so you can find things from older collection ago that would long be off the sales floor otherwise. And thanks to Single’s Day, italist is offering up to 55 percent off your favorite high fashion brands. So far we found that Max Mara teddy coat, Golden Goose sneakers at a fraction of the price, and Miu Miu’s puffer collection from the recently dropped FW21 season already on sale.

Alo Yoga

Alo Yoga, workoutwear of hotties like Kendall Jenner, also has a promotion for 20 percent off your entire order. It’s a proven fact that when you’re single, you naturally gravitate toward cute matching workout sets to hike in, and no one makes them better than Alo.

Farfetch

Farfetch, another international shopping destination, suggests you double down on 11/11 with 22 percent off certain items for a limited time only. We’re seeing J.W Anderson’s cult-favorite clogs, fall essentials like Alanui sweaters, and even Meghan Markle-approved Veja sneakers all included.

MyTheresa

If you want designer items that rarely go on sale, look to MyTheresa‘s Double 11 promo. Gucci’s iconic Jackie bags and Versace jewelry and more are all offered up to 25 percent off. You can get $200 off $1000 with the code DOUBLE200 or $500 off $2000 with DOUBLE500.
