Netflix’s latest action thriller, The Rip, starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, is still popular with audiences two weeks after its release. Damon and Affleck have made several great movies together. They received an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for Good Will Hunting, which they also co-starred in, and collaborated on projects like Air and The Last Duel.

Their latest film together is another worthwhile team-up. Directed by Joe Carnahan, The Rip stars Damon and Affleck as two cops who, along with their team, discover millions of dollars inside a cartel house. However, trust within the team starts to diminish as suspicions grow that one of them has plans to steal the money.

The film was well-received by critics, earning an 80% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. It quickly became a hit for Netflix after premiering on January 16, and it’s still performing well two weeks later.

In its first few days, The Rip already earned an impressive number of views. According to Variety, the film “debuted with 41.6 million views in its first three days.” Damon and Affleck’s action film is still holding strong, staying near the top of Netflix’s streaming charts as audiences continue to watch it.

According to FlixPatrol, The Rip is the No. 1 film on Netflix’s worldwide streaming charts, ahead of Skyscraper Live and The Big Fake. On FlixPatrol‘s U.S. charts, the film is in third place behind M3GAN 2.0 and Kidnapped: Elizabeth Smart. The charts show that The Rip is showing longevity, and didn’t quickly drop off after its release.

Why The Rip Is Worth Watching

Catalina Sandino Moreno and Teyana Taylor in The Rip

The Rip is more than just a standard streaming action film. Firstly, Damon and Affleck are always a treat to watch on-screen together. They have excellent chemistry, and that’s on display frequently in this film. Their dynamic also plays into the relationship between their characters, making their scenes together more engaging.

However, Damon and Affleck are not the only stars in this film. The Rip‘s cast is filled with stellar talent, including Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor, Kyle Chandler, Lina Esco, and Sasha Calle. All of them work off of each other excellently, and add more to the film’s intrigue and gritty atmosphere.

The plot is also intriguing and reveals enough information so that audiences can have fun trying to figure out its mystery. It can be a tad predictable, but as ScreenRant mentioned in its review of the film, “Rarely is there anyone on screen who lets things be uninteresting.”

It has everything needed for an entertaining movie, which is why critic ratings are strong and why it’s still high on Netflix’s streaming charts. The Rip is a solid action thriller, and an impressive win for Netflix.
