YOU: Joe Confronts His Past in Chilling Season 5 Teaser Trailer — When Does it Premiere?

The end is nigh for Joe Goldberg, and it’s about time.

He’s been the serial killer we’ve loathed but watched with adoration for years, but his time is almost up.

Netflix on Thursday confirmed that YOU Season 5 will begin streaming later this year.

More specifically, April 24 is the big date, and there seems to be some good news with the announcement:

There’s no mention of a split season. That strategy didn’t work out well for YOU Season 4, so we’re glad to see the back of it.

We’re also glad that Joe’s reign of terror is ending sooner rather than later.

YOU Season 5 Has A Lofty Task

The series is a textbook example of a show that lost its luster after a captivating freshman season.

That said, YOU Season 4 shifted the narrative by taking Joe to London, where he got immersed in a wicked new mystery.

The big surprise is that we’re returning to where it all began, with Joe back in New York and seemingly on the hook for his crimes.

He’s slipped through the net at every turn, which has ruined the series in some respects, so it will be interesting to see how he manages to do it again in these final episodes.

“Here we are, together again, back to where it began,” Joe says in a voiceover in the first teaser for YOU Season 5.

“A lot has happened these many years together — identities, cities, loves, complications — but all that led me here, to now, to where I was always meant to be.

“And the one constant, the one thing that’s always been there for me, is you. You, who have been there the whole time and will be there with me until the end. Goodbye, you.”

YOU Season 5 Should End With Joe’s Demise

As charming as Penn Badgley is in this role, Joe has proven to be a walking red flag, so there’s no way we’re being hoodwinked by him again.

Joe spent much of YOU Season 4 romancing Kate (Charlotte Ritchie), and somehow, she was unsurprised by his murderous tendencies and determined to make their relationship work. It was a hard left turn, but we’re thrilled to see what happens next.

“Joe Goldberg returns to New York to enjoy his happily ever after… until his perfect life is threatened by the ghosts of his past and his own dark desires,” teases the short but informative logline.

Kate is present in the teaser, along with Guinevere Beck (Elizabeth Lail), Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti), Marianne Bellamy (Tati Gabrielle), Benji (Lou Taylor Pucci), Cary (Travis Van Winkle), Sherry Conrad (Shalita Grant), and Delilah Alves (Carmela Zumbado).

Newcomers for YOU Season 5 include Madeline Brewer, Anna Camp, and Griffin Matthews.

It’s a brilliant cast, but we’re tempering our expectations because the only way this show can end with grace is if Joe dies a horrible death after being dragged through the mud for his crimes.

We doubt the show will go that route because Netflix will probably want a reboot down the line. After all, no show can ever truly end these days.

What are your thoughts on the trailer, YOU Fanatics? Are you on board for one last hurrah for Joe Goldberg?
