New artwork and a trailer have been revealed for MUBI’s upcoming The Girl With the Needle, directed by Magnus von Horn. Von Horn is a promising filmmaker and a Polish National Film School graduate whose previous films The Here After and Sweat were award-winning and well-received critically. His films often explore themes of isolation, criminality, and murder.
With his next film, Von Horn promises “a haunting and profound look at one woman’s search for love and morality” set against the bleak backdrop of post-WWI Copenhagen. Inspired by a true story, Von Horn and co-writer Line Langebek Knudsen draw on real-life events to weave a beautifully shot period piece that delves into survival and the importance of human connection.
Synopsis:
Having premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, the film has quickly gathered international acclaim. Now an Official Selection for the 97th Academy Awards for Best International Feature, The Girl With the Needle has also enjoyed three nominations at the European Film Awards.
Extraordinary… One of the most effective gothic horrors of recent years.
