Horror fans will watch almost anything with Stephen King’s name attached to it. The author simply has the Midas touch. For that very reason, there are a ton of adaptations of the prolific scribe’s bibliography. Some of the efforts are stellar. Some are very good. Others are properly divisive. One that falls into the last category recently became available to stream. So, you know we are going to give you the lowdown on where to find it.
Here’s where you can stream this polarizing Stephen King adaptation.
The film in question is Riding the Bullet. If you happen to count yourself a fan of this adaptation and want to pay it a repeat visit (or if you’re game to check it out for the first time) head over to Tubi. The flick is streaming for free (with ads) there as of the publication of this post.
Mick Garris wrote and directed the picture. Critics took issue with the film’s oft-meandering narrative. But the flick nonetheless has a fanbase. Maybe that’s thanks, in part, to a stellar cast. Riding the Bullet features a rather impressive core lineup that includes the likes of Jonathan Jackson, David Arquette, Barbara Hershey, and Erika Christensen.
What sets Riding the Bullet apart from a lot of King fare is that it isn’t as properly horrifying as a lot of the author’s output. The novella and the feature film adaptation are more along the lines of dramatic fare with horror overtones than all-out horror.
Riding the Bullet bowed in select theaters via Innovation Film Group in 2004. It pulled in a worldwide gross of $264,505.
The setup for this adaptation goes as follows:
Ever since his father passed away, art student Alan Parker (Jackson) has been hypnotized by thoughts of death. After his girlfriend, Jessica (Christensen), breaks up with him, Alan attempts suicide but is rescued by his friends. The next day, he learns that his mother (Barbara Hershey) has just had a serious stroke, and he sets out to hitchhike to her hospital. Along the way, he meets a series of strange people, including sinister George Staub (Arquette), who may be Satan.
